The Pitcher Awards Ceremony took place in Lagos, Nigeria on the 20th of May 2023 to honour winners in Pitcher Awards as well as winners of competitions in youth platforms of the festival, the Future Creative Leaders Academy and the Young Professionals Academy.


A key aspect of the event was the announcement of the special awards. The special awards are determined by the number of points earned within a particular category or across categories. The Digital Agency of the Year is the company with the highest total points earned within the Digital Category and the Digital, Mobile and Social Craft subcategory of the Craft Category. The Digital Agency of the Year was won by Dentsu Creative. In the second position was X3M Ideas and digitXplus in the 3rd position.


The Media or Channel Agency of the Year is the company that earned the highest points in the Channel category. The Media Agency of the Year was won by mediaReach OMD Nigeria. In the second position was Dentsu Creative and in the third place, X3M Ideas.


The Advertising Agency of the Year is the company that has gained the highest overall points across all categories in the Pitcher Awards programme for 2023. The award was won by X3M Ideas, Noah's Ark came second and Dentsu Creative came third.



A total of 22 Gold Pitcher Awards were given by the 6 independent juries, while the Craft, Channel, Digital and Good juries gave out 1 Grand Prix each. Two of the 4 Grand Prix awards were won by X3M Ideas, Nigeria, while one Grand Prix each went to Canal Plus, France and Dentsu Creative, Nigeria.

Covenant University Lifts 2023 FCLA Cup

The Future Creative Leaders Academy, FCLA is the student platform of the the Pitcher Festival. In the 2023 FCLA competition, the students were tasked with creating an intervention idea on behalf of “Creating a Better Africa” to sustain attention on the plight of those living in the flood prone regions of Nigerian and keep all stakeholders alert to the need to take proactive actions now to prevent loss of lives and livelihoods.


The bronze medal winner was Joshua Popoola of the University of Ibadan, the silver medal went to Ayomide Victoria Akinnugba, a student of the Nigerian Institute of Journalism. The gold medal winner was Mary Oluwakanyinsola Owolabi from the Covenant University. The FCLA Lecturer of Year 2023 was won by Dr. Kehinde Oyesomi, of the Covenant University for her supervisory role that helped her student clinch the gold medal. Covenant University also won the FCLA School of the Year 2023.

In the Young Pitcher competition, participants were asked to come up with ideas to improve the lives of amputees and to support the proposed Hit Street campaign planned by the Feet of Grace Foundation. The following winners were announced: In the Copywriting category, we had Daniel Osho, Nitro 121, Lagos, Nigeria - Gold Medal; Mabayomije Akinyemi-Ekong, BBDO West Africa, Lagos, Nigeria- Silver Medal; and Sheila Uduehi, Nitro 121, Lagos, Nigeria - Bronze Medal.


In the design category we had: Tobi Orukontan, Ideas Origin Media – Bronze; Ifeoluwa Ajayi, Dentsu Creative - Silver; and Oluwaseun Oladipupo, DMTCAgency – Gold


In the Digital we had Ivy Kanda, a freelance digital creative from Accra, Ghana, who won Gold. in Media, Barbara Abwoga, Dentsu Kenya won a Gold Medal; Ashleigh Sayle, Carat, South Africa won the Silver Medal; and Oluwademilade Jejelola, Carat Nigeria won the Bronze Medal.
