South Africa Becomes First African Country To Get Tesla

As the glitz surrounding the luxury electric car, Tesla, continues to make the rounds, Rubicon, a commercial solar components and solutions supplier in South Africa, is bringing a Tesla Model X Performance Edition all-electric SUV into the country next week.

The import is part of a marketing initiative in which Rubicon aims to emphasize electric mobility and the transition to an electric future.

The Tesla will be driven around major city centers in South Africa over the next few months in a bid to promote Tesla Powerwall and electric vehicle chargers from EVBox, Delta, and EO Charging. As more countries opt for climate-friendly transportation methods, the move to electric vehicles is gaining traction in many countries worldwide. Accordingly, Rubicon aims to accelerate South Africa’s electric vehicle industry through the promotion of the car.

“This is a big step forward for raising the profile of renewable energy in South Africa,” stated Greg Blandford, Director, Rubicon Energy & E-Mobility. “The vehicle will be used for marketing initiatives within the Rubicon Group to promote Tesla Powerwall and officially launch Rubicon’s entry into the electric vehicle charging space in South Africa.”

“The arrival of our Model X gives South Africans the opportunity to see up close what an electric future looks like, and to experience high-performance electric vehicles and the technology showcased within the tesla Model X for the first time,” Blandford stated.
